The wellbeing of the Earth and the long-term prospects of communities worldwide depend on joint efforts to conserve, protect and rehabilitate the natural environment and its essential resources. We aim to lower the environmental impacts arising from our business activities and supply networks. Drawing on our ability to bring different parties together, we build meaningful partnerships with stakeholders at every stage of the value chain. As a core component of our ESG framework, the UniverseHolding Environmental Policy guides our pledge to protect the planet and foster a sustainable, prosperous future for everyone.
1. Climate Change & Energy
Responsible environmental stewardship and climate action sit at the heart of our sustainability agenda. For our internal operations, we have rolled out a carbon reduction roadmap focused on cutting energy consumption, lifting energy efficiency, adopting renewable energy, and boosting environmental awareness among our workforce.
For our supply chain, we seek to drive decarbonization hand in hand with our partners. Our priorities include boosting data transparency, rolling out dedicated carbon reduction initiatives, and rolling out supplier performance scorecards. To date, more than 1,400 factories share their greenhouse gas emission data with us, alongside their emission reduction targets and energy-saving measures. A total of 54 key strategic factories joined our climate programme. By the close of 2022, 89% of these facilities hit their yearly goals and progressed to the next stage for ongoing improvement.
2. Water
Water stewardship is a top priority for UniverseHolding. Population expansion, economic growth and climate change together create mounting water pressure across the globe. We strive to reduce freshwater abstraction, raise water reuse rates within production sites, and improve the quality of wastewater discharged throughout our supply chain. We are making steady progress toward our internal water reduction targets. We also collaborate with suppliers to curb water consumption, with a particular focus on water-intensive upstream processes such as washing and textile manufacturing.
3. Materials & Products
UniverseHolding proactively recommends sustainable raw material options to clients, helping them reduce environmental impacts and elevate product brand value. Our teams work side by side with supply chain partners to source greener materials and eco-friendly packaging alternatives. Examples include switching plastic packaging for FSC-certified cardboard, downsizing plastic polybags, and replacing PET covers with recyclable paper. We have also deepened cooperation with Textile Exchange and GOTS. Their global database of certified factories has been integrated into our internal platform, making UniverseHolding the first and only company with this capability. This gives us complete oversight of factory certifications, covered product and operation scopes, and certificate expiry dates.
